PILES FOR A TANKER TERMINAL
A tripod arrangement of large-diameter steel-tube piles with one leg raking at 1 in 6 to the front and two rear piles raking at 1 in 2 taking the tensile forces is described. The tension raker piles are 2 m in diam and 30mm thick, and the front compression rakers are 2 m in diam and 40mm thick. The tripod is surmounted by a reinforced concrete block carrying the mooring hooks. The tensile force in each rear raking pile in the worst loading case is 745 tons. The piles are anchored into the rock by 560mm-diam, 32mm-thick dead-pin anchors, which are drilled 15 m into the rock below the toe of the pile.
