PASSIVE MICROWAVE IMAGES OF LAKE ICE
Observation of the microwave emission from fresh water ice using an aircraft is reported. The motivation is to find a feasible means of discovering early signs of the ice breakup below a persistent cloud cover in order to permit an extension of the shipping season.
