EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE HYDRODYNAMIC STABILITY OF LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYERS AT SOLID SURFACES IN WATER

Values are presented of the amplitude of disturbing motion and distance from the disturbance source to the point of stability measurement in analyzing the onset of turbulence. In accordance with these quantities a model is suggested for explaining the transition from laminar to turbulent boundary layer flow. Results are presented of measurements of the disturbing-flow variables and its kinetic energy across the boundary layer. The results are presented of studies of nonsinusoidal disturbing motion.
