VEHICLE EXHAUST FUMES IN STREETS. MATHEMATICAL MODEL AND TEST OF A MODEL

BILAVGASER I GATUMILJOE. MODELL OCH MODELLTEST

This final report describes a mathematical model for forecasting carbon monoxide distribution and levels in urban streets. The model is an elaborate version of the Stanford model. The parameters of this elaborated model are traffic flow, traffic pattern (driving behaviour), design of the street cross section indicating ventilation conditions, and the meteorological conditions. In order to verify the model, tests were carried out on two streets in central Stockholm. The data from the model coincided well with measurement data. Special features of this version of the model are as follows: emissions from the two traffic directions are treated separately, low outside temperatures as well as vehicle engines below normal operating temperature are considered, special consideration is given to the correlation between co-levels and high wind veolocities.
