THE ROUTINE OPERATION, CALIBRATION AND CONTROL OF THE LINEAR DISPLACEMENT INTEGRATOR
The linear displacement integrator (LDI) roughness measuring device is being used by both research personnel and road authorities for assessing the riding quality of roads. This report gives formal guidance for the operation of the LDI, and for the calibration, control and correlation procedures that must be followed to ensure that the instruments measure consistently from day to day, and also that the results from different instruments are comparable. These procedures, which are also applicable to other roughness measuring devices, are illustrated by using results from the prototype LDI unit. (Author/TRRL)
