CP2002-DESIGN OF EARTH RETAINING STRUCTURES. PHASE 1--SENSITIVITY STUDY

Design of bridges and retaining walls this report presents a review of design calculations carried out by 5 different organizations and compares the results with the current CP2002 recommendations. A literature review of a number of documents pertaining to the design of retaining walls was carried out. Five retaining wall design studies to encompass most of the commonly found problems facing the design engineer were prepared. The design cases include a sheet-pile wall, diaphragm wall, gravity-type wall, cantilevered and anchored walls with the soil strata including loose and dense sands, gravel, lightly and heavily overconsolidated clays. Various surcharges are also included. The assumptions used in the calculations are described. Results are presented and discussed. (TRRL)
