DAMAGE TO BRIDGES BY ROAD VEHICLES
This leaflet summarizes and brings up to date the advice on signing at bridges previously issued in the circular roads, and recommended in the traffic signs manual and the working party report. There continues to be a large number of accidents each year involving vehicles striking bridges. The possible risks are outlined together with the basic traffic signing requirements, signing of diversionary routes, use of metric height signs, and other additional signing measures at high risk bridges.
