RIMOB - AN IMPACT ATTENUATOR WITH CRUMPLING TUBES
RIMOB - OBSTAKELBEVEILIGER MET RIMPELBUIZEN
The various factors which have played a role in the development of an obstacle barrier designed specifically to meet the requirements of the road system in the Netherlands are examined. Furthermore the research is reported leading to the development of a crash cushion called Rimob. Its purpose is to guard fixed obstacles against collisions. The basic concept is a configuration of tubes which get crumpled on impact. It is very easy to replace damaged parts, which makes maintenance relatively cheap. The Rimob is meant for the protection of e.g. Gantry posts of motorway exits and piers of viaducts. (TRRL)
