2021 Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Research Peer Exchange Summary Report: FHWA’s Experimental Features Program and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Research Practices and Project Selection

The Research, Development & Technology Transfer office at the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) hosted a virtual research peer exchange to discuss the fundamentals of the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA’s) Experimental Features Program, implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion in research practices and project selection, and the best practices for research program websites. The peer exchange was conducted virtually May 17–19, 2021, using Zoom. In addition to DOT&PF, the peer exchange participants included staff members from research programs in the DOTs of Kentucky (KYTC), Minnesota (MnDOT), and Wisconsin (WisDOT). Other guest participants included the DOT&PF Civil Rights Office, Alaska Division of the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and FHWA’s Office of Corporate Research, Technology, and Innovation Management/Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center. This report documents the discussions, outcomes, and key takeaways from the peer exchange sessions.
