FULL TIME/PART TIME PSV DRIVER ACCIDENT STUDY. COMPLETE REPORT
A seven month national survey of accidents involving public service vehicles was made between June and December 1977 to determine possible differences in the accident rates between full-time and part-time public service vehicle drivers. It was found that for all companies, full-time bus drivers had over three times as many accidents per 1000 driving hours as part-time drivers. This difference was only found with the national bus company/public transport executive (nbc/pe) companies. In all private companies surveyed, there was no difference between full-time and part-time drivers' accident rates. The accident rate for drivers in private companies was about one quarter that of nbc/pte companies. Possible reasons for these differences are discussed.
