THE CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION ABSTRACT
The California Transportation Abstract is the culmination of an extensive review of hundreds of documents on the subject of transportation. In addition, there were numerous verbal and written interchanges with transportation experts, both within government and from the private sector. The abstract is intended to fill a need for a single, comprehensive publication which covers, in depth, as many areas of transportation information as possible. The very broad subject of transportation in California has been separated into five major divisions called transport mediums. These mediums are road, rail, air, water, and pipeline. Each medium has been further subdivided by the type of carrier service and, finally, by the specific carrier modes. Modes are defined here to be the vehicle or craft by use type (such as intercity bus, school bus, transit bus, or taxi). This publication begins with an introductory section which includes information pertaining to all mediums, followed by sections corresponding to the five major divisions of transportation. (Author)
