DEVELOPMENT OF OPTIMUM SHIP ROUTE SETTING SYSTEM
The best ship route between two points is often a series of courses that may be influenced by weather conditions enroute. These weather conditions can be considered in two phases. One is the immediate weather that is influencing the hull movements and the other is the long term weather forecasts for the ship route. A computerized system can read immediate hull strains and accelerations and advise speed and or course changes to keep these values within safe limits. The computer is also programmed to receive weather reports by radio and prepare weather charts with best ships' course indicated on the chart. An actual ships' test of the system has confirmed its feasibility.
