EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS SECTION 18 PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PLAN
Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is located in the recreational area of the southern Ozarks Mountains and itself is developing as a tourist center with folk festivals, arts and crafts fairs, historic homes and other attractions. Its county ranks 5th highest for tourism in Arkansas with 1.5 million visitors annually. About 1980 Eureka Springs began its transit operation primarily to serve visitors and uses a small bus and a trolley-styled bus for a fixed-route service. This study proposed use of Section 18 funds for an expanded service with four of the "trolley" buses that would make more stops in the vicinity of hotels and motels, have a downtown terminal and would be promoted by intensive marketing. Estimates of capital and operating costs are given.
