SUBURBAN SERVICE AREA STUDY. FINAL REPORT
During the first week of November, 1982, consultants conducted surveys of households (by phone) and bus riders in Henrico County, Virginia, for the Greater Richmond Transit Co. The basic purpose was to produce a data base for detailed transit planning and included demographic information on households in the bus service areas and similar information on those residents who were using GRTC buses. The phone interviews were of selected households and the on-board survey was of residents boarding GRTC buses. In each case questions regarding household demographics and travel characteristics were asked in a manner that allows comparison. Coding procedures are described. Detailed origin-destination information on work trips was asked only in the phone survey and bus riders were quizzed on trip purpose, home location and mode of access. There is a summary of key data collected, a discussion of statistical validity, data factoring, survey procedures, forms and coding, and tabulation of results. Tabulations are primarily separated by route and/or geographic area.
