AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON THE PROPULSIVE EFFECT OF A RUDDER IN THE PROPELLER SLIPSTREAM
Model experiments have been carried out in a cavitation tunnel with a rudder of 15% thickness behind five different propellers to investigate the propulsive effect of a rudder partially in the propeller slipstream. Test results are analysed and compared with some theoretical data from other sources. An assessment of the rotational slipstream energy recovered by the rudder has been made. Viscous effects are discussed and some recommendations are given for model experimental and prediction work.
