An automated system that is capable of automatic pipe processing and production control of the pipe shop by means of computer software is described. The system is composed of two sub-systems, one for the pipe processing line, and the second for production control of the pipe shop. The system is capable of processing 30 pipes per hour, with a savings of about 60 percent of man-hours of pipe processing over conventional methods. A description of the pipe system operation, from pipe cutting and automatic flange handling to the numerical data system for production control is included.
