HULL SCALING BY EXPLOSIVES

A method of hull cleaning that is fast, uses little labor, and is competitive with conventional methods, is described. This new method utilizes a rapid chemical reaction that initiates a pressure wave around the hull of the ship which strikes the marine growth with a sweeping action, and the hull is swept clean, leaving the paint system underneath undamaged. How the system came into being, its stages of development and early experimental results are all discussed in the article.
