GAS TURBINE APPLICATIONS OF FLEXIBLE DIAPHRAGM COUPLINGS
The use of flexible diaphragm couplings for vibration-free, long life power transmission in gas turbines is discussed. Diaphragm couplings accommodate misalignment while transmitting power by material flexure, without requiring lubrication. Common needs of gas turbine systems in the area of flexible couplings are given, and by discussing several flexible coupling capabilities, such as low noise characteristics, resistance to corrosion, and low reaction levels on connected equipment, among others, the author believes that this type of coupling meets all the common requirements of different gas turbine systems.
