FIRST IHI PIELSTICK PC-4 DIESEL ENGINE COMPLETED AT AIOI SHIPYARD

A new diesel engine capable of generating 1,500 bhp per cylinder has been developed and is described. This engine is a medium speed unit that can be operated with "C" grade heavy oil. The unit developed is also economical with relation to the amount of fuel used, in that it can operate using only 146 grams per horsepower per hour. The principal engine particulars, including normal and maximum outputs, supercharger, starting, and cooling systems, and the cylinder arrangement and diameter are given.
