PEDESTRIAN IMPACT INJURY & ASSESSMENT P-121
This publication contains the technical papers presented at a two-day Symposium on the state-of-the-art understanding of pedestrian impact injury and assessment. The goal of the Symposium was to bring into clearer focus the interactions among relevant factors involved in pedestrian injury production and to highlight the various technologies and alternatives available to the concerned technical community in its effort to arrive at meaningful countermeasures. There were several sessions dealing with the following main areas: pedestrian impact problems, the mechanisms of injury and the current accident injury statistics; mathematical and experimental studies of pedestrian impacts; and the influence of vehicle design on the consequences of pedestrian impact.
