THE CRITICAL MINUTES

The attention paid to the ambulance service today is not sufficient to ensure that patients with an acute life threatening illness or injury have optimum chances of survival and uncomplicated recovery. Only through concurrent arrangements for training citizens in life supporting first aid and by providing medical competence at the alarm centres so that medical advice can be given until the ambulance arrives, can the critical time interval between the occurrence of the accident or illness and administration of adequate first aid be brought down to a minimum.
