LATE COLONIC STENOSIS SECONDARY TO SEAT BELT INJURY
While the right colon appears to be relatively protected from delayed sequelae of blunt abdominal trauma, a case is described of late right colonic stenosis secondary to seat belt injury, its pathophysiology, and successful surgical management by right hemicolectomy. The increased use of seat belts, while reducing the severity of some injuries, has given rise to a new spectrum of injuries. Although injuries to the right colon are not often seen, physicians caring for accident victims should be aware of mechanisms of injury, their location, and late sequelae.
