Study on EU ETS for Maritime Transport and Possible Alternative Options of Combinations to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The consortium of Ricardo, E3 Modelling and Trinomics were commissioned to carry out a study to support the European Commission in the assessment of possible options to develop an EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) for maritime transport and possible alternative options or combinations in order for the sector to contribute to climate mitigation efforts. The study considered policy options in terms of different scope options (geographical and emissions) and other design elements, such as regulated entity, potential exemptions, and revenue recycling.
