THE ZOETERMEER SIGNPOSTING SYSTEM SURVEYED

ONDERZOEK BEWEGWIJZERING ZOETERMEER

For the expanding town of Zoetermeer a signposting system was devised based on the GPO postal coding. It was introduced in 1974. It consists of roadside area maps along the radial trunk roads, signposts with the area numbers and area maps giving detailed information as one gets near to the destination. Maps of neighbourhoods complete the information chain. The effects have been investigated by interviewing visitors to both private and non-private addresses. Conclusion: the system is often used, although in many case only partially. The link with GPO system does not seem to be clear. Some improvements are suggested. (Author/TRRL)
