PROCEEDINGS: CONFERENCE ON INTERCITY BUS TRANSPORTATION. REMARKS OF GEORGE SHELDON
The results of deregulating the intercity bus industry in Florida have been favorable for the most part so for. Greyhound and Trailways, as well as smaller regional carriers, have greatly expanded their routes, schedules, and services, in some cases taking advantage of the new rate flexibility to offer special discounts. While service to some small rural communities has been eliminated, this could be offset by the reduction of the cost and difficulty of entry, making it possible for new small companies to offer service to these communities. If bases are allowed greater freedom to haul express packages, revenues from this service could help cover costs on routes otherwise unprofitable.
