PATTERNS OF URBANIZATION AND ENERGY REQUIREMENTS: RECENT REGULATION CHANGES AND SIMULATION STUDIES CONCERNING AMERICAN URBAN AREAS
This paper will focus on the experience gained within the American framework in the various attempts to facilitate changes or to study the impact of such changes. The motive of energy efficiency has proven quite instrumental in introducing change and fostering its implementation. The paper is divided into two parts. The first part reviews the experience gained in handling aspects of site development, and mixes of land use, density, and grain within the overall framework of metropolitan areas. The second part focuses on several simulation studies that explored the relationships between urban patterns and networks on one hand and energy consumption quotients on the other.
