O-BUS: A SYSTEM FOR FLEXIBLE PUBLIC TRANSPORT BY MEANS OF ON-CALL BUSES

O-BUS: EEN SYSTEEM VOOR FLEXIBEL OPENBAAR VERVOER DOOR MIDDEL VAN OPROEPBARE BUSSEN

The o-bus is a system for public transport by means of on call vehicles. As compared with conventional systems for urban and regional public transport the o-bus is characterized by further developed systems in the field of management and communication. In management three levels are considered (1) vehicle control (2) vehicle management and (3) system management. Sub-systems for the communication are network communication, vehicle communication, operator communication, passenger communication and request communication. These subsystems are briefly described. More attention is given to request communication, since this is distinctive for the o-bus. Finally a simulation experiment, in which real transport data are used, is presented, in which it is shown that the o-bus can be more efficient than a conventional transport system, in particular in areas with greatly differing transport-relations between dispersed stops. The article is also available in English. (TRRL)
