VEHICLE REPLACEMENT: A CASE STUDY IN ADAPTING A STANDARD APPROACH FOR A LARGE ORGANISATION

The results are presented of a case study intended to stimulate interest in vehicle replacement planning techniques. Although the study concerns vehicle replacement policy at the British Gas Corporation, the experiences described are likely to be relevant to other industries. While the technique described has adapted slightly the standard approach to vehicle replacement, the main intention of the article is to focus on the broader issues to be considered in this work. The article includes a management assessment of likely conditions under which vehicle replacement decisons are made and it attempts to take them into account to ensure effective implementation. The merits of the approach described are discussed. (TRRL)
