BUS PRIORITY SIGNAL CONTROL EVALUATION

A before-after comparative analysis of the effect of bus priority signal control in the Dallas North Central Expressway Corridor is given for floating car and bus following runs. The results for the frontage road segments indicated that buses were favored significantly by the priority control, while the automobile travel factors did not improve. Bus travel improvement were indicated for the arterial segments in all the measures of effectiveness in the peak-flow direction, except for stops per mile. The cross street travel factors were all adversely affected by the bus priority control. The study shows the tradeoffs that can occur with bus priority control when comparing bus and automobile travel factors.
