CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD EMBANKMENTS
This TRH gives guidance on methods of road embankment construction which have proved succesful in South Africa. It is emphasized that a sound construction is the outcome of an investigation and design process which should have taken account of any special conditions at the site concerned. This, however, is not always possible or predictable and it is therefore essential that the construction agency should appreciate the problems which may have to be dealt with. A flexible approach is recommended and this document therefore deliberately avoids laying down specifications for construction. The various sections deal with: preparation under embankments; drainage; construction; environment; monitoring and maintenance. (TRRL)
