THE FAERJSUND BRIDGE

The Faerjsund Bridge, on the Aaland Islands, is a concrete arch bridge with a span length of 130 M. It was constructed at the end of the 1930's. The present article describes the strengthening operations carried out on the concrete arch and the construction of a new bridge deck. After this reconstruction, the width of the bridge deck was increased from 6,3 M to 11 M, and the load-carrying capacity was made approximately sevenfold. (TRRL)
