Retailers Comply with Marijuana Age Restriction
This brief article explores how well licensed marijuana retailers in California are conforming to laws prohibiting sales to people under age 21. A research study conducted by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) found that young-looking customers without proper identification were denied entry at every marijuana retailer they visited for the experiment. In the study, two supposed customers (age 22 and age 23) visited 47 retail outlets for recreational marijuana. The author notes that jurisdictions that have legalized recreational marijuana use typically have age laws for marijuana purchase that are similar to those for alcohol purchase.
