PARK-AND-RIDE IN NORTH HOLLAND. A STUDY OF THE MODE CHOICE OF COMMUTERS IN A CORRIDOR

This paper describes a study of the modal choice of commuters working in the Dutch city of Amsterdam and living in the catchment area of the Den Helder-Alkmaar-Zaandam-Amsterdam railway line, in the north Holland province. The main aim of the study was to investigate ways of furthering the use of park-and-ride. The promotion of park-and-ride is part of a policy outlined in this paper. Details are given of the study area and research method (choice based interviews with train and car travellers by means of written questionnaires and home interviews). The main survey results are presented. (TRRL)
