MOTORCYCLISTS HELP MOTORCYCLING (TRAINING COURSE FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDING INSTRUCTORS)
Defense Department (DOD) employees (military and civilian) describe their recent participation in a course for teaching skilled motorcyclists the art and science of training novice riders. The course is given by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), which, in order to expand its instructor training program, schools experienced teachers to become chief instructors. In a normal class of college and high school instructors, 20% to 30% fail to pass the chief instructor's course. All 12 of the DOD participants, none of whom had extensive backgrounds in education, graduated and with one of the highest grade totals ever recorded. The new chief instructors describe the course while expounding their enthusiasm for the program.
