SLIPSLIDING AWAY. SOME TIPS ON AVOIDING AN ICY SKID
This article gives a brief summary of the purpose and accomplishments of the Winter and Emergency Driving Workshop conducted by the National Safety Council at Stevens Point, Wisconsin. It consists of two-day workshops over a two-week period each January and is open to driving instructors only. The workshops are short, intensive, hands-on sessions designed to teach safe car handling on ice. They give participants the opportunity to develop and perfect special driving skills and techniques, which they can pass along to those they teach. This article mentions briefly some facts about skidding on ice, such as the three kinds of skids, stopping distances on snow and ice and a special braking technique called "threshold braking".
