HIGH QUALITY FILTERS FOR LOW QUALITY FUELS
Diesel fuel picks up contaminants while in storage, during transfer, or inside the vehicle tank itself. Water and dirt are the most prevalent impurities in domestic fuel, and probably the most harmful. This article focuses on three types of fuel filters: the depth type filter consisting of cotton or viscose threads wrapped in a cloth sock or packed in a metal container, the surface type, or paper element filter, usually a resin impregnated paper folded into many pleats to provide a large filtering surface within a small space, and finally a combination depth and surface filter.
