DESIGN PROCEDURES

The article presents a brief diagrammatic guide intended to act as an aid in the selection of filter fabrics and geotextiles. Three main aspects of selection are considered: 1) some suggestions are made concerning the main function roles in different typical filter fabric design layouts; 2) a phase-function triangle which shows the consequent generic groupings of designs in terms of fabric function requirements; and 3) a logic chart is presented which suggests some of the considerations and decisions involved in geotextile selection for reinforcement and filtration applications.
