ALUMINUM ACTS AS SACRIFICE IN AUTOMOTIVE WAR AGAINST RUST
Aluminum clad with stainless steel is being produced for use in automobile trim and bumpers. The material is lightweight, easily formed, and bright and shiny in appearance. The aluminum, which acts as a sacrificial metal, corrodes in place of the steel, but the disfigurement is not visible. Clad metal is bonded molecularly under high pressure and will not separate. Bumpers made of aluminum clad with stainless steel are also being produced for use on fire engines and heavy duty trucks.
