ELECTRIC ADHESION LOCOMOTIVES FOR THE FURKA-OBERALP RAILWAY
Design data of a new Swiss railroad equipment are outlined. The Furka-Oberalp Railway has taken delivery of two narrow-gauge, thyristor phase angle controlled locomotives. These are to haul the car transporters through the new Furka tunnel. The bogie design includes, for the first time, the sliding-bearing motor arrangement developed by SLM. This article describes the most important requirements to be met by the locomotive and the design conception of the mechanical part and its main components.
