STEPPED SPEED DRIVE FOR HYDRAULIC WINCH
A stepped speed drive for hydraulically powered marine winches has been developed that provides up to seven different speeds in varying increments. This system is said to cost less than a comparable horsepower system based on a variable speed delivery pump. The system operates on the concept of flow division, and it utilizes a flow divider, which, with a number of different gear sections, each with a specific gear width and therefore a specific flow rate, can offer a number of different flow rates by simply altering the gear widths in each section. Advantages of this system include ease of both operation and maintenance as well as a low initial cost, as compared with a variable speed pump based system.
