A METHOD OF EVALUATING THE FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR OF A FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT IN SERVICE BY MEANS OF SYSTEMATIC DEFLECTOMETER TESTS
UN METODO DI VALUTAZIONE DEL COMPORTAMENTO A FATICA DI UNA PAVIMENTAZIONE FLESSIBILE IN ESERCIZIO CON PROVE DEFLETTOMETRICHE SISTEMATICHE
The proposed method makes use of systematic in situ deflection measurements on flexible pavements, to establish the most suitable special maintenance operations which would reduce costs in terms of the useful life of the pavement. A bilogarithmic deflection/accumulated traffic diagram is developed upon which is constructed a straight divided limit line. From this it is possible to establish how long maintenance operations can be confined to the bound surface layer, and when, on the other hand, it would be necessary to strengthen the lower layers with a semirigid structure or by subbase operations.
