Data Dashboards at State DOTs: Case Studies of Select Transportation Agencies
In supporting State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) in using Geographic Information Systems, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is publishing this Case Study Report focusing on the use of online, geospatial dashboards by transportation agencies to analyze and display operational metrics and performance targets. To gather information for this report, the U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center interviewed five State DOTs and one consultant and developed a case study focusing on their experiences. The purpose of this document is for State DOTs and MPOs to consider the approach that these agencies have used in developing dashboard projects to reduce a duplication of efforts and learn best practices from peer agencies.
