WASTE MATERIALS - REPLACING RAW MATERIALS FOR CONCRETE

AFVALSTOFFEN - VERVANGENDE GRONDSTOFFEN VOOR BETON

The results of an investigation into the possible use of waste materials for concrete (to replace sand and/or gravel) with regard to their technical, environmental, economical and energy aspects are discussed. The following materials are reviewed: demolition waste, refuse incinerator clinker, blast furnace slag, steel slag, phosphorus slag, bottom ash, fly ash and minestone. It is concluded that demolition waste and phosphorus slag can be used in concrete without many problems. Refuse incinerator clinker can be used as unbound material, when the requirements do not demand a high concrete quality. (TRRL)
