STUDY OF PRIORITY RULES

STUDIE VOORRANGSREGELING

A literature review with regard to the modification of priority rules has been made. The consequences of the abolition of the rule that fast traffic has priority over bicycles, mopeds and other non-motorized vehicles which approach from the right on highways of the same rank is studied in particular. The main purpose of the inventory is an estimation of the total number of junctions in the Netherlands and to get an insight into the occurrence of junctions and t-junctions in relation with the way in which the priority is regulated and (within the urban area) the traffic densities at junctions. Main criteria were traffic safety, traffic flow and psychology. There is only a small part of the available literature into the possible consequences of the abolition of the difference in priority rules between fast and slow driving traffic. (TRRL)
