THE BEHAVIOUR OF SHIPS IN CONFUSED SEA; THE LATERAL WAVE BENDING MOMENT

IL COMPORTAMENTO DELLE NAVI IN MARI TEMPESTOSO; MOMENTO FLETTENTE LATERALE DOVUTO AL MOTO ONDOSO

This paper completes the systematic calculation on the longitudinal wave bending moment which the technical bulletin number 8 of Registro Italiano Navale dealt with and, therefore, represents an appendix of the mentioned paper. Results of a computation are reported by means of which the contribution of the lateral wave bending moment amidships to the total longitudinal one can be found. The power spectral density function chosen to represent the confused sea is the one presented by the 1964 ISSC by BTTP. The lateral wave bending moment response amplitude operators are deduced from the well-known Vossers Diagrams. The calculation procedure, suggested by Webb Institute of Naval Architecture, was adapted to use an electronic computer. In Italian
