THE TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AS EXPERIENCED BY THE CHILD. PART 1 AND PART 2

Results of a study of 150 children and adolescents who experienced traffic accidents either as victims or witnesses are presented, including scenarios which describe the accident, its aftermath, and the child's resultant behavior. The psychogenics of various types of accidents (injury from passive involvement, injury from active participation in street traffic, death trauma from witnessing loss of a loved one, hospital trauma of hospitalized children, accident-prone personalities), common coping behaviors exhibited by children, latent behavior disturbances, and methods of helping to de-traumatize the child are described. Tabular data and "art therapy" drawings made by traumatized children are included.
