The book discusses the characteristics of the demand for energy and its response over time to changes in prices and levels of economic activity. The book is particularly concerned with differences in the structure of energy demand across countries and the relationship of energy demand and energy prices to macroeconomic growth in industralized countries. Energy demand characteristics are examined in the following chapters: 1) introduction; 2) models of sectoral energy demand; 3) the estimation of energy demand models; 4) the residential demand for energy; 5) the industrial demand for energy; 6) the transportation demand for energy; 7) energy demand in the developing countries; 8) higher energy prices and economic growth.
