MAINTENANCE OF ARTERIAL ROADS IN INDIA
Expanding and heavier traffic on arterial roads in India has increased demands and put pressures on maintenance operations. The need is being felt for systematic planning and management process so as to obtain uniformity over the whole network. This paper examines the general types and composition of pavements in India today, norms for maintenance, code of practice for maintenance of bituminous pavements, organisation and staffing, management practices, training needs for staff, and gives details of the national seminar on maintenance aspects held in July, 1982.
