RESEARCH ON PASSENGER CAR UNIT VALUES FOR TRUCKS ON TWO WAY SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY ROADS IN CAPACITY CIRCUMSTANCES

ONDERZOEK NAAR DE PERSONEN-AUTO-EENHEDEN (PAE) WAARDEN VAN VRACHTAUTO'S OP TWEESTROOKWEGEN IN CAPACITEITSOMSTANDIGHEDEN

The main purpose of the research is the determination of the passenger car unit values for articulated and non articulated trucks on horizontal uninterrupted two-way single carriageways without bends under full capacity conditions in the Netherlands. The motivation of the research is based on the idea that the most used values quoted in the highway capacity manual 1965 differ from those under present day Dutch circumstances. The pcu values are calculated using two separate methods. Analysis of the data shows that articulated and non articulated trucks have pcu values of 1.76 and 1.30 respectively, both with a standard deviation of 0.06. The pcu values are respectively 12% and 35% lower than the values most used in the Netherlands mentioned in the highway capacity manual 1965. (TRRL)
