THE RAYLEIGH ADDRESS TO THE BRITISH ACOUSTICAL SOCIETY: SHIP SURVIVAL IN HEAVY SEAS
The loss of a ship by foundering in heavy sea is by no means a rare occurrence. When it does happen it betrays a lack of ability to oscillate safely in some sense. Certain distinct types of oscillation have to be considered and integrity may be lost either by flooding or by structural failure.
